For the last few weeks a terrible wildfire has been wrecking havoc on northern California. The Camp fire has scorched 153,00 acres of land swallowing up more than 14,000 homes and countless businesses and other buildings. The death toll has already reached 88, and 203 people are still missing in the aftermath.
Right in the middle of the fires is one of America's largest craft breweries, Sierra Nevada. Owner Ken Grossman knows first hand just how bad things are and how much help is needed for those affected. So in the spirit of "Giving Tuesday" he came up with an idea to help.
Grossman started a special project: brewing a unique beer called Resilience IPA. This is a special one-time brew to be sold from now to May 1 only, with all the proceeds going to the Camp Fire Fund. Grossman isn't the only one making this beer however. Part of the project was to bring other brewers and breweries from across the country on board.
Grossman sent this letter to brewers.
“Sierra Nevada has created a beer called Resilience IPA. We’re inviting you to brew a version at your brewery and sell it at your Pub or Taproom, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to support those impacted by the Camp Fire,” Ken wrote to the community, “We are hoping for at least seven BBLs. Of course, any volume is appreciated, but the bigger the better! If you join us, we’ll give you the recipe, tap handles, coasters, posters, a social media kit and recognition for your support. We’re also working with many malt and hop suppliers to provide or reimburse participating breweries for the cost of the raw materials.”
"Giving Tuesday" and the nationwide brew day has passed. Close to 1,000 breweries answered the call and took part.
Owner Ken Grossman even invited local first responders to come help make the beer.
On top of brewing the beer Sierra Nevada also donated $100,000 to the relief fund.
Locally here Good City Brewing, Third Space Brewing, MKE Brewing company, and Explorium Brewpub brewed the beer. Public Brewing in Kenosha and Central Waters in Amherst, WI all participated.

As for when and where to get the beer? We will have an update in a few weeks.
