Real talk… Let’s all vow now with the holiday’s around the corner not to be "that" person at your next holiday party—you know, the one who breaks something or worse yet offends the host by being totally rude. To help out Woman’s Day put together a list of the 14 festive faux pas to avoid, so you can make the invite list again next year:
1. IGNORING THE INVITATION
If there's an RSVP date, respond on time. And if you're invited without a guest, don’t bring along half your pose. That also applies if you have kids–don't assume it's okay to bring them to an adults-only affair.
2. SHOWING UP WITH THE SNIFFLES
Don’t come in here spreading your plague! Ain’t nobody got time to be sick around the holidays!
3. ARRIVING EARLY
No one likes to have to entertain while still getting things ready. Fashionably late is called that because in this case, it’s fashionable.
4. BRINGING SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES PREP
You should never show up empty-handed, but bringing a dish to pass that requires you to use half the hosts kitchen is more harm than help.
5. ROAMING THROUGH THE HOUSE
Are you looking for a bathroom or searching out treasure?
6. HOGGING THE HOST
Even if the host is your BFF, don’t hog all the time and attention.
7. DOUBLE-DIPPING, AND OTHER RUDE FOOD HABITS
Besides it’s gross, See number 2.
8. PACKING A DOGGIE BAG
At the end of the evening most hosts want food gone. What's not okay? Showing up with your own containers, and loading them up before the party is over or taking back what's left of the wine you brought! Don’t be an animal.
9. STARING AT YOUR PHONE ALL NIGHT
Texting or answering your cell phone in front of others is rude.
10. BEING A CRITIC
If you don't have something nice to say, well, you know the rest…
11. SITTING ON YOUR BUTT THE WHOLE NIGHT
Feel free to ask the host if you can help at all. Keeping the couch warm doesn’t count.
12. USING POOR SOCIAL MEDIA JUDGMENT
Think before you post and inadvertently offend the host, or post a photo that is unflattering to another guest.
13. STIRRING UP POLITICAL OR CONTROVERSIAL TALK
Umm.. 2 rules when drinking. 1) You don’t talk politics. 2) You don’t talk Religion.
14. NOT SAYING GOODBYE
Always greet the host/hostess at the beginning of the event, and say thank you at the end.
