4 ways to celebrate Mardi Gras in Milwaukee

"Mardi Gras" is French for "Fat Tuesday," and is often the last chance to eat rich food and indulge in alcohol before Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday.

Often the celebration is tied to the city of New Orleans and it's rich Mardi Gras history. You can learn all about it here. This year you can escape the never ending winter here in Milwaukee by embracing the spirit of Mardi Gras and celebrating at one of these parties around the brew city.

Here's 4 ideas for you to start with:

Mardi Gras at Potowatomi Hotel and Casino

The celebration kicks off Friday March 1st with a performance from New Orleans-based rock band Cowboy Mouth in the Northern Lights Theater. The party then continues all weekend and through Fat Tuesday. There will be nightly parades through the casino floor, palm readers, food and drink specials including Cajuns favorites and hurricanes. Plus you can enjoy the soulful NOLA sounds of Marcia Ball and Sonny Landreth in the Northern Lights Theater on Fat Tuesday, March 5th. Get all the info here

Cajun Dinner Colab at Third Space Brewing

One of Milwaukee's coolest breweries is teaming up with Shully's Cajun Cuisine for a paried dinner. Tickers are $60 per person. Get all the info here.

Crawdaddy's Fat Tuesday

Crawdaddy's CCB of Greenfield brings Louisiana Creole and Cajun cooking to Milwaukee and has rolled out it's Mardi Gras Menu with food and drink specials galore!!! This will run through the week leading up to our Fat Tuesday Celebration!! Starting at 11 O'Clock the Hurricanes will be Flowing with Live Music by Robert Allen Jr. and tons of Food and drink special on Fat Tuesday. Get all the info here.

Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras at Maxies

One of the best southern food restaurants in the city known for it's huge southern culture parties is bringing back another huge event for this year. The party is so big it can't be contained in just one day. As a New Orleans-themed bar there may not be a better place to celebrate this both Lundi Gras (Monday, March 4th) and Fat Tuesday (March 5th). "Fat Monday" or Lundi Gras kicks off with dining without dancing in the party tent plus the Extra Crispy Brass Band will play from 6pm-9pm. Fat Tuesday the party kicks off at 2pm with Extra Crispy Brass Band under the tent, an outdoor bar and lots of drink specials... Try a Sazerac! Get all the info here
