Each year around this time, we get together and do a live broadcast for Toys for Tots, collecting gifts for kids who might not have a Christmas, otherwise. Due to the pandemic, we won't be hosting a toy drive with a live broadcast, but we still need to make sure these kids get the Christmas they deserve - so, we're encouraging our listeners to donate virtually.
Toys for Tots started in 1947 by Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks. It was actually his wife, Diane, who encouraged him to do so. In that first year, his reserve unit in LA collected and distributed more than 5,000 toys! Currently, the program distributes an average of 18 million toys to 7 million less fortunate children annually.
