There's a reason "A Christmas Carol" is a Milwaukee holiday tradition

I've been lucky to see the Milwaukee Rep's production of "A Christmas Carol" for the past few years now and I love it each and every time. This year though was extra special because I brought along my husband Jaime who has never seen it. He LOVES all things Christmas so I just knew he'd love the show. Also, with a baby on the way due in February, we have to get as many date nights in as possible!

Most people are familiar with the Charles Dickens story where the always crabby and money hungry Scrooge is visited by three spirits that show him the past, present and future in hopes he'll change his ways and become a more thoughtful, generous and caring person. It's a timeless tale of love, hope and joy and there's a reason it's Milwaukee's favorite holiday tradition. In fact there's people that have been coming to see it for years. You're always going to experience enchanting music, great dance pieces, wonderful costumes and scenery and of course some surprise special effects too. I'm always blown away at the beautiful set and costumes and all the actors are fantastic. There's a few that are recurring that I now look forward to seeing each year but there's always new ones too that really add to the show. I really enjoyed Matt Daniels representation of Scrooge. His actions onstage and delivery of some of the more comical lines actually had me laughing. Even when he was just the background character as something else was happening onstage I often found myself watching him and his reactions.

I also appreciate how the audience is always somehow involved in the show without it being annoying. I'm the type of person that doesn't always enjoy being included in productions as I feel like it can be forced but not for this show. My favorite part is at the end when the audience gets included. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the show though. You'll just have to see it for yourself which I highly recommend. Whether you've seen it many times or you're looking forward to your first experience, you'll leave the Pabst Theater with that warm and special Christmas time feeling. I have to admit this year I even teared up a bit at the end. Maybe part of it is because I'm pregnant but it's also because when you get to the point in the story when things start to turn around, you're once again reminded of what makes the Christmas season so special and that little lesson in there of the important things in life.
