McDonald's menu items employees said they'll never eat

Although I don't eat there often, I do enjoy McDonald's every once in a while. I usually stick to the few regular menu items that I typically order. I mean how can you not get the fries if you're at McDonald's? Business Insider asked current and former McDonald's employees which menu items they'd never eat and why and here are the top four.

  1. Filet-O-Fish - Seeing this on the list bummed me out a little bit because usually during Lent I'll have at least one of these. Fun fact for you, it was the first new non-hamburger item added to the nation-wide menu in 1965. A former team member said this sandwich is usually ordered by "older" people thinking it's because it's an item easy for them to chew. Another employee said they personally just didn't like the taste. Say what you will I'll probably still eat it.
  2. Salads - You might be really surprised to see this on the list but I'm not. Most crew members mentioned that the salads made the list because they are actually really unhealthy. The southwest buttermilk crispy chicken salad comes in at 520 calories compared to a Big Mac which is 540 calories. For only 20 calories more I'm going for the Big Mac!
  3. Grilled Chicken Sandwich - Again making the list because it is promoted as a healthier option but some crew members mentioned that it is slathered in margarine and therefore less healthy than they appear.
  4. Anything new on the menu - A former general manager mentioned they stayed away from the "new menu items" as they preferred to stick to the basics. This I understand. If a menu item has been around for that long and is consistently good why would you need to try anything new.

Hopefully you can see that these items weren't added to the list because they are horribly disgusting or anything like that. It basically came down to nutrition and personal taste. You can read more at BusinessInsider.com.
