This past weekend I took part in the Harley-Davidson Riding Academy New Rider Course at House of Harley-Davidson on Layton and I'm so bummed to report I didn't pass. I was doing good in the practice rounds, felt really good about some of the activities and knew I needed a little more work on some of the others but when it came to the final course test, I completely bombed.
This is not an exaggeration either. Within the first few seconds of beginning the final test I completely screwed up, lost it and couldn't recover from then on out. I'm not upset or embarrassed that I didn't pass but I am disappointed because I know I can do better than that. I let myself get into my head and let my nerves takeover and there was no hope for me then.
One thing I did learn from this past weekend is that I had so much fun and I can't wait to take the final course test over again because I want to pass and I know I can. I of course need to practice more but what I really need to focus on is relaxing and having the confidence to do it well because I can. I need to stay positive and get out of my head! Ever had to tell yourself that before?!
Today's Make It Through Monday Moment, powered by Winkie's in Whitefish Bay, is two-part. The first quote focuses on your in the moment feelings and I found it to be perfect for me. When I get worked up I'm always telling myself to "just breathe."
The second quote is about moving forward. Although I am so bummed right now and having a hard time lifting my spirits, I know I can do better and that's what I plan to do.
This second quote couldn't be more perfect since I failed to make the U turn properly in the motorcycle driving test. You better believe next time around I'm making that turn and I'm going to nail it!
I can't say enough wonderful things about our driving instructors Greg and Karen from House of Harley-Davidson. They were so helpful and really encouraging and I can't wait to work with them more in the future.
