Kelsea Ballerini spoke about how she prioritizes her mental health amid a bustling schedule. The barrier-breaking country star has been working on her next album — following two successful projects released back-to-back: Subject To Change and Rolling Up The Welcome Mat while gearing up to serve as a coach on The Voice, and more on the horizon.

Ballerini, 30, said as she caught up with New Beauty for the magazine’s 2024 summer issue that she consistently pours energy into her rest and health: “I do therapy once a week. I’ve never been this consistent with it, and I’ve noticed that it’s incredibly helpful to keep to that schedule. I think I’ve finally learned how to have a ‘switch.’ I used to always pride myself on, ‘I’m going to be the same all the time!’ I hope that I am at my core—I know that I am at my core—but now there is a bit of a switch that I’m able to turn off when I’m in my real life and in my jeans and with my friends, my boyfriend, my dog, my mom or dad, or whomever. I’m able to ‘click’ into being a 30-year-old woman, daughter, friend…and just try to be present for that.”

Ballerini is the cover star of New Beauty for the issue available on newsstands on July 2, she and the magazine announced on Tuesday morning (June 18). She also spoke with the publication about her upcoming mov to L.A. from July through September to film The Voice, the changes in her life in recent years, and more.

Most recently, Ballerini released a reimagined version of “Love Me Like You Mean It,” one of the hit singles from her debut album to mark its 10-year anniversary. The single followed her deeply personal EP, Rolling Up The Welcome Mat, sharing her side of heartbreak and healing after divorce. Ballerini released an extended version, Rolling Up The Welcome Mat (For Good), months later to account for fan-favorite lyric updates and add a new song about dating again. Ballerini, who has since ignited a romance with Outer Banks actor Chase Stokes, released her latest full-length album, Subject To Change, in September 2022. She said during a recent rooftop show in Nashville that her next record will release sometime this year. Ballerini said at that time: “I’ve never handled anything with so much care in my life.”
