On Wednesday, July 1, the "Girl" singers shared a snapshot of herself alongside her son in matching cactus print swimsuits floating on a massive inflatable golf cart. "Motor-floatin’ ⛳️✨," Morris captioned the photo.
After sharing the adorable photo, she was criticized by some people for not putting a life jacket on her son. "Gust of wind- baby is toast," one comment read. Another wrote, "No life jackets. Wow, just wow."
The country star's husband, Ryan Hurd, spoke out to defend his wife on Twitter on Thursday, July 2. "I'd just like to say, my wife usually doesn't need me to defend her, but she's a great mom," he wrote. "My kid was not unsafe on a float in 1 feet of water being held by and adult with 5 people watching so she could get a picture."
He added, "Hayes has 2 coast guard approved life jackets that he wears. Also, sometimes moms have a drink, and homegirl earned it."
Morris also directly spoke out herself on Wednesday in response to a fan who defended her on Twitter. "Honestly, I get so many criticisms of my motherhood on anything I post of Hayes, so I may just discontinue posting photos of him," she wrote, adding, "Sucks but it’s kind of where I’m at. 😑"
Fellow country singer Mickey Guyton told Morris she should not give in to the haters, but Morris revealed she and Hurd were already considering no longer sharing photos to protect Hayes privacy.
"Thanks, babe. I mean, we talked about curbing posting photos anyway now that he's a little bit older, but the added crap from (mostly other moms) folks definitely forced our hand," she wrote.
Morris and Hurd, who got married in 2018, welcomed baby Hayes in March of 2020.
