Keep Mosquitoes away! Top-performing insect repellents.

As if we didn’t have enough to worry about with Covid-19, as summer comes you need to protect yourself from the bad stuff spread by ticks and mosquitoes. Cases of West Nile virus, Lyme disease, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever pop up every summer because of our most hated pests.

Consumer Reports' recently did tests to show which products are most effective against mosquitoes are also effective against ticks.

Many of the highest-rated products contain deet at concentrations of 15 to 30 percent. The two top-rated repellents were: Ben’s Tick and Insect Repellent wipes and Total Home Woodland Scent Insect Repellent. Both contain deet.

Research has shown that deet is safe when used as directed.

But if you’re worried about it and are looking for something more natural, testing shows that products whose active ingredients are essential oils earned a rating of Poor for protection against mosquitoes. Plus essential oils aren’t great for use on children, especially those under 3.
