Luke Bryan Honors His Late Niece With Touching National Anthem Performance

Luke Bryan's most recent performance of the National Anthem was extra special for him as he sang in honor of his late niece, who died at seven months of age due to complications of Congenital Heart Disease.

On Thursday night (February 13), it was "Hockey Has Heart Congenital Defect Awareness Night" at Bridgestone Arena for the Nashville Predators game against the New York Islanders. Bryan was not only there to sing the anthem, but also to represent a cause close to his heart and the Brett Boyer Foundation.

The foundation was started by Bryan and his wife, Caroline, to raise awareness for Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) after losing their niece Sadie Brett Boyer in 2017.

With an arena packed full of fans, Bryan walked out on to the ice where he knelt down and sang alongside two young CHD patients. According to the Tennessean, there were more than 200 people in the audience who have also been affected by the disease. A video of the touching moment can be seen below.

Bryan's performance took place just ahead of the release of his new song, "Born Here Live Here Die Here," which is the title track to his forthcoming album. the new project, set for release on April 24, is his first since 2017's What Makes You Country. "I’m proud of this new music and I’m really excited to get it out," Bryan says.

This summer, the country singer will embark on his "Proud To Be Right Here Tour" in support of his new album. The tour will kick off on May 28 in Cincinnati, Ohio running through October 10 in San Bernardino, California. Special guests Morgan Wallen, Caylee Hammack and Runaway June are set to accompany Bryan on the journey.
