How Shannen Met Giannis

Since we're celebrating the Milwaukee Bucks win over Toronto in Game 1, I figured now would be a good time to share with you the story of how and when I met Giannis three years ago. It's not glamorous by any means, but it was another one of those moments that you realize how awesome the "Greek Freak" is. We do these things called "remotes" as On-Air personalities. This is when we go visit a business, bring the wheel or a register to win box out and meet listeners as they pass through.

Before I worked at FM106.1, I worked at our sister station (a Top 40 radio station), and it was there that I had my first ever remote as an On-Air personality in 2016. It just so happened to be at a cell phone store and was PACKED. Well, it wasn't crowded because everyone wanted to see the voice behind 12AM-5AM (which, I can understand). BUT - they were there because of Giannis Antetokounmpo was scheduled to make an appearance.

He took SO many pictures that day, even when his "people" said it was time to go. I was one of the last ones to squeak in, and he was still extremely nice, despite the fact he had already been there for an hour or two greeting people, obliging to their every request (stand up, take your shoe off, hold your hand up, etc...you know, "for the gram"). Anyways, he wasn't supposed to take a picture with me or like three other people because they were running way behind. Thankfully, he stayed, made it happened, and thus:
