"Mardi Gras" is French for "Fat Tuesday," and is often the last chance to eat rich food and indulge in alcohol before Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday.
Often the celebration is tied to the city of New Orleans and it's rich Mardi Gras history. You can learn all about it here. This year you can escape the never ending winter here in Milwaukee by embracing the spirit of Mardi Gras and celebrating at one of these parties around the brew city.
Here's 4 ideas for you to start with:
Mardi Gras at Potowatomi Hotel and Casino
The celebration kicks off Friday March 1st with a performance from New Orleans-based rock band Cowboy Mouth in the Northern Lights Theater. The party then continues all weekend and through Fat Tuesday. There will be nightly parades through the casino floor, palm readers, food and drink specials including Cajuns favorites and hurricanes. Plus you can enjoy the soulful NOLA sounds of Marcia Ball and Sonny Landreth in the Northern Lights Theater on Fat Tuesday, March 5th. Get all the info here
