414 Day: Ridder's Top 3 Milwaukee Things

May 14th or 4-1-4 Day named for the Milwaukee area code is the day we celebrate all things great about Milwaukee.  In the spirit of Milwaukee’s unique history, we celebrate the things that make our city great and to inspire the efforts that will make our city a better place to live, work and call home.

With April 14 falling on a Saturday this year, Milwaukee Day 2018 could be the biggest one yet.

In honor of the day we put together our list of what we love about the 414!

Here's Ridder's Top 3.  (In no particular order)

When I think of Milwaukee I think beer.  "The Brew City" How can you not talk about beer.  The history of the city is all about the beer.  I mean we names our baseball team after beer or should I say the makers of the barley beverage that made our city famous.  The Brewers.

Going to a ballgame is one of my favorite things to do during summer in Milwaukee. You just can't beat the atmosphere at Miller Park.  When it comes to games at Miller Park you can't beat the tailgates.  That's what baseball is about.  Many memories have been brewed up in the lots around the ballpark among family and friends.

Grab the grill, some Klements brats, good Milwaukee made beer and hit the lots before a ballgame!

Speaking of beer... one of the other great things that makes Milwaukee unique is it's bier gartens (beer garden).  A tradition going back to our cities German roots.  Estabrook Park has had an operating beer garden for years offer great beer from Germany and views of the river.

Best part about these gathering spaces is that they are in public parks and allow you to bring in your own food.  Of course most also offer some available for purchase on site as well.

Milwaukee even has a traveling beer garden tour bringing the fun to different parks all summer long so even if you don't live near one of these permanent places, you can enjoy the fun.  So grab a liter and say it with me, "Ein Prosit"

Brewers, Beer Gardens and what would they both be with the BEER!  That's one of my absolute favorite things about Milwaukee is the beer. Specifically the craft breweries.  Milwaukee is now home to around 30 breweries, just 10 less than what was around before prohibition.

It seems every day a new brewery opens up... there are already at least 2 more planned to open in the area before summer.  So far here's the list of operating breweries in the area:

The beer culture in Milwaukee is like no where else in the country.  We truly make some of the best beers, and have some of the most unique spaces to enjoy them.  Go hit up a small taproom near you and share a pint with a friend.

Because it's hard to nail down just 3, I have to add another favorite of mine. Germanfest.  Milwaukee is the city of festivals and being of German decent I really enjoy the last weekend in July relaxing along the lake-shore with a liter and spanferkel.
