Tributes to beloved legend Dolly Parton quickly poured in as news of her passing broke on Tuesday (August 25). She was 80.

An official statement confirmed that “global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee.” Bryan Seaver, Parton’s nephew also shared a statement from the family on Instagram.

Many fans and fellow artists expressed their heartbreak over the loss. Kelsea Ballerini, for example, shared a photo performing with Parton on her Instagram story. She remembered Parton as “my East Tennessee angel,” and thanked her “for every ounce of magic and butterflies, acceptance and joy, hart and music you brought to this world. We will always love you Dolly.” Ballerini later added a story about the first time she met Parton, who “single handedly (influenced) every woman in music since she started. The true definition of a legend. Still can’t believe she’s gone, but she never ever will be.” Keith Urban wrote on his own story that he’s “heartbroken,” and has “no words right now.” Jon Pardi said that although he never got to meet Parton, she “always sent me kind things,” including books for his two young daughters.

Tyler Hubbard hailed Parton “a true icon and the heart of country music. Dolly inspired generations of artists, myself included, and her influence will love on forever. Grateful for the moments I was lucky enough to share with her. Rest in peace, Dolly.” His Florida Georgia Line duo partner, Brian Kelley, said he “can’t imagine the songs she’s singing in heaven.” Travis Denning said Parton is a “legendary artist. my favorite thing about her career was the songwriter she was.”

Rapidly-rising newcomer Stella Lefty said it’s “an honor to have lived in the same lifetime as you [Parton].” CMA-winning musician Charlie Worsham wrote, “I don’t think there is another public figure who has done more to champion grace and godliness this side of heaven. How blessed are we to have had Dolly Parton here among us.” Powerhouse duo The War and Treaty expressed that they’re “heartbroken over the news of the passing of the conscious of country music, Ms. Dolly Parton. May we continue to uphold her beliefs in humanity and may we always love her even beyond this life.”

“I’ll never forget being in awe of her kindness to everyone around her,” Jana Kramer remembered as she shared a photo in the studio with Parton from 2011. “She ouched so many lives and leaves behind such an incredible legacy. I’ve always loved a good Dolly quote, and this is one of my favorites: ‘If you see someone without a smile today, give ‘em yours.’ Rest in peace, Dolly.”

Little Big Town shared, “we love you Dolly. Thank you for leading us with kindness always. Your legacy of love will carry us forward. We will miss you!!!!!”

Shaboozey wrote, “rest in paradise Dolly Parton. I wish I had the honor of meeting you. You were everyone’s favorite artist. Thank you for giving us some of the greatest music we’ll ever know.”

Cole Swindell hailed Parton “one of a kind.”

George Strait shared, “you’ve had such a huge impact on so many people all over the world, [Dolly Parton]. We will all miss you. May God bless the Parton family.”

Brittany Aldean, married to country star Jason Aldean, wrote that she’s “so sad about this.” Lainey Wilson shared a photo on her Instagram story hugging Parton. Breland hailed Parton “the best of us,” in a tribute on his Instagram story. Rest easy Dolly.” Ryan Hurd said “it was an honor to meet Dolly a few years ago. What a sad day in Nashville. A hero and truly a role model.” Luke Bryan wrote, “her light, being a strong Tennessee woman, songwriting, charisma, wittiness, and the ability to make fun of herself and the ability to inspire the world is what I think about when I think of Dolly. When you live your life and people can recognize you by one name, Dolly, I think that says it all. Rest in peace Dolly.”
