Listen to Lauren Alaina on iHeartRadio

(Yahoo!) - At 19 years old, Lauren Alaina is still technically a kid - but that didn't stop this "American Idol" alum from tackling a grown-up Christmas song form, of course. "My Grown-Up Christmas List" is a seasonal classic that's been covered by a wide range of artists, but Alaina's version (produced by the venerable Nathan Chapman) is special for a couple of reasons.

Number one, the song's usual vibe as done by others is "slowww...slow," she points out. "Ours isn't...and it's country!" Of course!

Number two, and most importantly, the tune was covered by Alaina for a very special cause beyond simple Christmas cheer. It was released this month in conjunction with the 26th anniversary of the Special Olympics' A Very Special Christmas music series, with proceeds from the single benefiting the Special Olympics.

Alaina, who is a Special Olympics Ambassador for Project UNIFY, has been volunteering for the organization since she was 11 years old, and traveled all the way to PyeongChang, South Korea for the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games. Her involvement stems from her lifelong personal advocacy for a beloved cousin with an intellectual disability.

Yahoo Music is feeling the Christmas spirit by offering this exclusive glimpse of Alaina in the studio recording her "List" and discussing why it's making her feel so merry! Enjoy, and if you'd like to purchase the single for yourself (or a gift!), you can feel good knowing your money will be going to a great cause.
